Name: Faulkner Planetarium to host Artemis 1 Launch Event
Date: August 29, 2022
Time: 5:00 AM - 12:00 PM MDT
Event Description:

The Faulkner Planetarium at the College of Southern Idaho’s Herrett Center is hosting an Artemis 1 launch event on the morning of Monday, August 29. NASA’s uncrewed Artemis 1 mission, the first step in returning American astronauts to the surface of the Moon, will launch the Orion spacecraft to orbit the Moon and return safely to Earth after 26 to 42 days in space. Onboard will be “Moonikin Campos,” a high-tech mannequin carrying sensors to assess conditions astronauts will experience on future missions.

The Faulkner Planetarium will be one of many planetariums around the world livestreaming fulldome coverage of the launch from Cape Canaveral. Cosm, a global leader in experiential media and immersive technology, will distribute Space Explorers: Artemis Ascending, a first-of-its-kind immersive live feed by Emmy Award-winning Felix & Paul Studios, capturing and livestreaming the launch in 8K, 360-degree direct-to-dome to theaters around the world.

This will be a unique coverage of the launch and seating is very limited. The Faulkner Planetarium will be making 132 tickets available for purchase starting Tuesday, August 23 when the Herrett Center opens for business at 9:30 AM. Ticket prices are $6 adults, $5 seniors (60+), $4 children (2 - 17). Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

The Artemis 1 launch is an early morning event with a scheduled lift-off time of 6:33 AM MDT. The Herrett Center doors will open for ticket holders at 5:00 AM with the livestream starting at 5:33 AM. We ask that ticket buyers be aware of the early start, that individuals only purchase tickets if they know they can make the launch event, and that ticket holders be in their seats by 5:30 AM, as this is not a drop-in type of event.

In the event of a last minute launch cancellation, Felix & Paul Studios will provide alternate, but related, coverage and there will be no refunding of tickets. As with all rocket launches, delays or cancellations are always a possibility. In the event of a cancellation by NASA ahead of the launch date, tickets will be refunded or transferred to the next launch window livestream event.

Tickets can be purchased at the Herrett Center, in-person, or by calling the center at (208) 732-6655. The Herrett Center and Faulkner Planetarium are located on the northeast corner of the College of Southern Idaho’s main campus at 315 Falls Avenue, Twin Falls, ID.
